Starting Fall 2022 to access your email we will be requiring Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), in preparation we need to convert Office 365 to use Single Sign-on (SSO) which in our case means you would see the familiar InSite login page. The switch to SSO means we will be moving from “basic authentication” to a “modern authentication”, the older protocols such as POP, IMAP and SMTP all use basic authentication and will no longer work starting the afternoon of March 21st. If you are using a mail software that relies on these unsupported protocols we recommend you move to Microsoft Outlook for your desktop/laptop or the Outlook app for mobile devices.

Listed below are common software used to access email with the changes that might be needed on 3/21 after Office 365 is configured for SSO.

Outlook 2016 (PC) or higher

  • Within a short time (typically 15 - 20 minutes) after the SSO changes are completed on 3/21, outlook will automatically convert to SSO and you will be directed to InSite login page to log in.

  • No configuration changes that will be needed

Outlook 2016 (Mac) or higher

  • Within a short time (typically 15 - 20 minutes) after the SSO changes are completed on 3/21, outlook will automatically convert to SSO and you will be directed to InSite login page to log in.

  • No configuration changes that will be needed

Outlook App for Mobile (iOS and Android)

  • You will be directed to login but nothing else should change

macOS built-in Mail

macOS 10.14 (Mojave) and newer
Instructions on configuring the built-in Mail app can be found at Configure District email on Mac OS Mojave (version 10.14) or higher

macOS older than 10.14 (Mojave)

  • Office 365’s Modern authentication does not work on MacOS older than Mojave (10.14), we recommend you that you 1) if possible upgrade OS to the current OS Cataalina (10.15) OR 2) use Outlook 2016 or higher for Mac OR 3) use web browser to access your email (https://mail.4cd.edu)

iOS 11+ Mail

If you have District email configured you will have to delete that email and add it back, instructions on how to delete and re-add can be found at Add/Remove 4CD email on iPhone/iPad

Android Mail (native Mail on android devices)

  • All documentation point that we have found states that Android Mail will not work with Office 365’s modern authentication

  • We recommend you move to Outlook app for mobile devices or use web browser to access your district email (https://mail.4cd.edu).

Web Mail

  • No labels
